10 February wedding ideas for a late winter wedding: plum and olive, ice blue and silver, merlot and navy

February is a strange month to get married in. The holiday decorations are gone, spring is still weeks away, and every shop window is red and pink. A lot of couples plan around that instead of with it, and end up with a wedding that looks like a Valentine’s Day party.

It does not have to. Late winter has its own look: candles, deep colors, velvet, and the first real flowers of the year. Here are ten ideas for a February wedding that feels like February. Most of them work just as well in January or early March.

Every product below is a real listing from our shop on Etsy, with the price it showed when I wrote this.

Start with color, and skip the red and pink

Pinterest’s 2026 wedding trend report shows where couples are heading. Searches for a plum and olive wedding are up 1,380 percent, plum wedding themes are up 630 percent, and merlot weddings are up 370 percent. All three look right in a dim room in February, and none of them is a Valentine’s color.

1. Plum and olive

Plum with olive green is the pairing behind that 1,380 percent jump. It works in winter because both colors are muted and a little dusty, so the room feels rich instead of loud. Keep the plum on the people and the table, and use olive for greenery and napkins.

If you want to try the color without redecorating a room, start with shoes. These dark purple velvet heels are $134.99, and velvet picks up candlelight in a way satin does not.

If plum feels too heavy, go the other way. Pale blue with silver looks like frost on a window, and it is one of the few winter palettes that feels light instead of cold. Use it on the bridesmaids and on the table.

These light blue velvet block heels are $189. A block heel is easier to stand in through a long ceremony than a stiletto. For the table, a dusty blue gauze napkin is listed at $1.80. Knot one over a charger plate with gold flatware, as in the photo, and you have the color on every place setting.

3. Merlot and navy

Merlot has a Valentine’s reputation it does not deserve. Pair it with navy and it turns into a winter evening: dark, rich and a little formal. This burgundy and navy silk bouquet is $19, which makes it an easy choice for bridesmaids, and silk does not cost more the week of February 14.

4. Flowers that are actually in season

February is a good month for flowers if you pick the right ones. Ranunculus are at their best, anemones and tulips are in season, and hellebores, hyacinth and muscari fill in the small stuff. Ask your florist what came in that week and build the bouquet around it.

Roses are the trap. Prices climb in the days around February 14, so if your date is in the first three weeks of the month, ask for a quote without them.

5. Candles at every height

This is what makes the room. It gets dark early in late winter, so a February wedding gets candlelight for free. Skip the one big centerpiece and put ten or twelve candles of different heights down the length of the table.

These brass and black candle holders with a handle and a drip tray are $16.99. The handle makes them easy to move around a crowded table. Check your venue’s open flame policy before you buy, and have a plan B ready if candles are not allowed. For more table ideas, see our gold winter table decorations.

6. Drape something

Fabric is the other big winter look. Pinterest searches for drapery backdrops are up 1,510 percent. A swag of sheer or velvet fabric behind the ceremony or the sweetheart table hides a plain venue wall, and it usually costs less than a floral installation. Steam it the day before and ask someone tall to hang it.

7. Keep the bride warm

Outdoor photos in February are short and cold. A wrap lets her stay out for ten more minutes without a coat over her dress. This ivory faux fur bridal wrap is $60 and works over a strapless gown or a long sleeve one. Keep a few blankets in a basket for guests if the ceremony is outside. More options are in our guide to a faux fur wrap for the winter bride.

8. Give guests something warm to drink

A hot drink at the door works as a welcome and a favor at once. Hot chocolate in a tube comes with your names on a kraft tag and is $2.29 in the listing. For a bigger crowd, a bag of mulling spices is $30 and turns store-bought cider or wine into a hot drink. More ideas are in our post on winter wedding favors.

9. Candle favors

Guests take home something that lights the way. A wood slice tealight holder with a sprig of greenery and a name tag is one of the cheapest favors I know: the listing is $0.64. It also matches the candles on the tables, so the favor looks like it belongs to the room.

10. Matchbox favors

Matchboxes are the small favor couples keep saving. Pinterest searches for matchbox inspiration are up 940 percent, and they pair with the candle theme: guests get something to light the candles with at home. These custom GET LIT matchboxes are printed with your names and date on kraft. The listing is $35, so check the pack size and the options before you order.

What a February wedding really costs

Winter has a reputation for being cheap. The Knot’s 2026 Real Weddings Study, which covers couples who married in 2025, puts the average for January through March at $33,200, against $35,400 for July through September. That is about $2,200 less. It is real money, but it is not a different budget. It is worth asking every venue and vendor whether they have off-season pricing, because that is where the savings come from.

If your date is this winter

Personalized favors are made to order, so check the production time on each listing and order early. Book flowers and any rentals now, and ask your florist about the Valentine’s week before you settle on a date.
